How to adjust your privacy on Facebook
Facebook is everywhere. It is used be people of all ages, professions and by people from all countries. It is THE world’s biggest and best online social network. Facebook was built around the idea of sharing information with people or friends from all over the world. It is a great platform to advertise everything about your personal life, if that’s what you choose to do. Your photos from the last trip you took, the party you were at the week before, and your general mood today, can all be out there for your friends or the world to see. All of this information sharing can cause people worry, but there’s a solution for any facebook users privacy concerns. With a few simple adjustments to your settings, one can control who to expose personal information and pictures to. These options provide a more secure online experience.
Privacy Settings
On this page you can see how you currently share your privacy information. To get here, simply go to "Privacy Settings" in the "Account" menu at the top-right corner of your screen.
There are four grades of privacy on Facebook: Everyone, Friends of Friends, Friends Only and Other.
Privacy Settings
You can see here an example of a rather intimate set of settings, where all of the profile information is only shared with friends. It is up to you to decide just how much you'd like to share (e.g. would you like to share with just your friends or would you like to share with everyone on Facebook?).
On the left pane of the window, you can choose one of the default privacy settings. This option just might suit your personal needs. However, if you'd like to have more control, you can click the "Customize settings." Clicking there will take you to this page:
Here you can choose the exposure rate for everything inside your profile. You can also decide on more advanced rules, such as blocking certain friends from viewing specific items.
Control Indexing
Another aspect of your online privacy is the directory listing. This is what people use to search for each other on Facebook. If you'd like to limit the information that is displayed on that list, you can click the "View settings" link under "Basic Directory Information" on the Privacy Settings page. Keep in mind that if you block information from appearing on the directory listing, it will be harder for your friends to find you on Facebook.
With these privacy options, you can control and protect your privacy on facebook!
